    Yes, We Love Megan!

Megan at 2007 SLC Marathon

Megan Wooden speaking

at the SLC 2007 Marathon

  • “I met Megan nearly 3 years ago while undergoing alternative medical treatments.  We were both having difficult health issues to confront.  But Megan seemed so strong and mentally and emotionally so upbeat that she truly inspired me to fight my battles and challenges in my life.  We have a long distance relationship but Megan feels like a sister to me.  My best friend.  Megan inspires me every time we communicate together.  Always giving more love and compassionate caring than I can ever give back.  Megan truly lifts the spirits of people she’s around and it is contagious.  I am a different person today by knowing Megan Wooden for only three short years.  Megan is truly an angel sent from heaven. “  ~ Sandy S.  (Fairbury, NE)

  • “Megan continues to be an inspiration to me.  I first met her when I had the privilege of being her small group leader at Impact Trainings.  Her obvious external beauty draws many people to her, but it is her internal beauty that keeps us there.  Never in my life have I met someone who has battled so much, but with such a positive and self-assured attitude.  Megan is a blessing to everyone with whom she comes in contact, and my life is so much better because she is my friend.  With all of my heart, I love Megan, and she touches my life much more than I will ever be able to touch hers! May all of us have the honor of being her friend, and may we each approach life, our challenges, and our hurdles, with the grace, dignity, and confidence that she has.”   ~ Ed H.  (Inland Empire, CA)

  • “I have known Megan since our high school days dancing on the D’ettes at dear old Davis High.  She was always such a fun-loving, happy person, willing to help out any friend.  I am in awe of her attitude about her cancer!  What an incredible person! Her attitude is – ‘I will beat this! All the while with a smile on my face!’ She is rarely concerned with herself.  The challenges that have come into her life due to the cancer, would be difficult for anyone to handle.  But, Megan has handled every one gracefully.  Her perseverance is amazing.  The doctors in Utah were not giving her options, so she went elsewhere.  She just goes on – happily.  Megan has taught me that you cannot let your problems ruin your life.  You can make it through anything!  You must have a positive attitude and not let it get you down.  I feel so blessed to know Megan and to call her my friend.  I admire her for everything she stands for, and just simply who she is.”  ~ Alisha P.  (Kaysville, UT)

  • “I am your typical "Red Head" - pale skin, burns easily, freckles easily, and obsessed with being tan...something that is almost next to impossible, So about 15 years ago when I was constantly asked if I had a sister that worked at Nordstrom I was amazed that some one actually looked like me. I was told that she too had red hair and we were about the same size. I had no idea who this was, but I sure heard of her often. Little did I know that not only would I meet  this "Red Head" that worked at Nordstrom, but she would also become a life long friend who I admired and loved and drew strength from many times in my life. Megan came to be my hair client through another client and after talking I soon realized that this was the infamous Nordstrom worker. I felt flattered that so many had found me to look even some what like her. I felt bad for her that she had to look like me! It was within minutes that I was taken with her flair for style, life, and her genuine kindness. I felt lucky to have someone like her as a client and friend. I had done her hair several years when she came and told me of her diagnosis. I was horrified, but NOT her. She had an amazing amount of strength and determination about this. She told me this did not work for her and that she was not going to let it beat her. I truly believed her. I watched this tiny, cute, little "Red Head" take control of this monstrous diagnosis, and show it who was boss, and who would win. Two years ago, I found a mole that was growing and changing.  As scared as I was, I went immediately and had it checked and learned that it needed to be removed as well as several others. I wanted to tell Megan. I knew she would give me the strength that I needed.  I had them removed in Twin Falls, Idaho. Megan was the first to call when I was out of surgery. She continually checked on me and was thrilled to hear that I had caught it in time before it had caused any harm. I was so relieved that I was OK, but sad that Megan had not received that same news. She NEVER made me feel one bit bad. She gave me a gift that I will cherish always. It was pewter letters that spelled "LIVE." She is simply amazing. I know she will beat this. Cancer did not know what it was up against when it hit Megan Wooden. She is a true fighter, and WINNER!! I have never admired someone more. She is an exceptional friend, daughter, sister, wife, and mother. She once told me that she had children to raise and that it was NOT an option to leave them. She will see that through I am sure of that. I believe in her and love her and feel very lucky to consider her as a friend and "Look a Like." I think that people come into your life for special reasons. She certainly came into mine for many of those.”  ~Becky C.  (South Ogden, UT)

  • “I met Megan at work a couple of years ago, in passing I heard of her health struggles and could not believe what I was hearing!  It wasn't until I was diagnosed with cancer that I could fully benefit from the positive words of wisdom Megan had to offer me.   Megan is so thoughtful and caring and even though she has a lot going on with herself, she always has the time to lend an ear or offer words of encouragement to me. Many times doctors like to give you the text book analogies for treatment and care.  What really matters though, is who you surround yourself with in your life and the spiritual journey one takes after the forbidden words are given to you.... that you have cancer.  Megan has become such a great friend and I truly believe that people are brought into your life to help you along the bumps in the road.  Almost like angels from above guiding your way. I have learned from Megan that positive thinking will conquer all.  Also to never give up hope, for there are always other options out there, it's finding the one that works for you! “  ~ Jamie R. (Auburn Hills, MI)

  • “Megan is a gentle, courageous, highly intelligent, self-motivated, loving, kind, spunky GIANT of a young woman in a tiny five-foot frame.  She is beautiful inside and out in every way.  She places the needs of others before her own needs, and that is exactly why she is driven to write “Soaring Above” – to give hope and courage to all who read it.  We all must hang onto hope.  My husband has likewise embarked on his own journey with cancer.  Megan’s positive energy and hope have given him strength to continue fighting his battle with a brighter outlook than he would otherwise have had.”  ~ Vicki L.  (Mendon, UT)

  • “I read about Megan's story in the Ogden Standard Examiner newspaper. I was impressed by one of the quotes in the story, "You can't do much about the length of your life, but there's plenty you can do about its depth and width." I wanted to meet this gal in the photo that was able to laugh, even after being given one year to live.  I met Megan in July of 2006. I had been diagnosed with melanoma cancer and had my toe amputated. I was scared and traumatized.  She invited me into her home where she talked to me about the approach she took to heal herself. She would send me comforting and supportive emails when I had scary test results. She would remind me that "Worry is a waste of the imagination. There is good in every situation." It has truly been a privilege to rub shoulders with Megan. She is an inspiration to all she comes in contact with her determination and positive attitude. There is a saying, "Attitude determines altitude" and with Megan's wonderful attitude, she is truly is Soaring Above.” ~ Robin S.  (North Salt Lake, UT)

  • “I first met Megan 15 years ago when we were employed at Nordstrom and both going to school at Weber State University.  Shortly after we met, we decided to rent a house together.  You learn a lot about someone when you work, live, and go to school with them.  Megan has always been a positive influence with her optimistic attitude, strong work ethic, combined with a driven sense of direction for her life.  She has most influenced my life by simply being a great friend and wonderful role model for overcoming tremendous obstacles.  I take a lesson from her in the way she just goes about things and accomplishes them.  Utilizing her life and illness as a vessel of hope, she continues to inspire by creating new pathways of knowledge and possibility for not only herself, but for the benefit of others.  I’m proud to call her my friend.  ‘Let your light shine.  Shine within you so that it can shine on someone else.  Let your light shine’ (Oprah Winfrey, O Magazine, January 2004)”  ~ Buffy J. (Irvine, CA)

  • "”Life is the dancer, and You are the Dance’ (Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth).  This quote reminds me of Megan.  Megan is truly One with Life.  She is Peaceful yet Powerful!  Megan’s inspiration reminds me to live without fear.  I was recently putting too much thought and worry into a decision of taking a much needed trip, which would require a couple of days away from my children.  "Anything is possible"  I read on her website.  These are the simple, true words that helped make my decision to take a break for ME.”  ~ Jen N. (South Ogden, UT

  • “My experience with Megan has been a literal life saver. I met Megan through a mutual friend after having been diagnosed with the same type of cancer that Megan had.  She was so forthcoming with all of the knowledge she had gained from her hours of research on melanoma.  The thing I remember most from that initial conversation with her was not the facts and statistics of this crazy cancer we both had, but her genuine concern with my emotional well being.  Megan didn't know me, had never met me and there she was asking what she could do to help me through what was a very scary reality I was facing.
Megan has been one of the most influential people in my life.  Without her constant guidance and example of how to live a peaceful, happy life through any number of difficult situations, I don't think I would be in the place that I am now.  Megan has shown me that it is possible to fight and beat cancer.  Because of her, I also am cancer free.  She has shown me how to be graceful to people that intentionally or unintentionally hurt others.  She has shown me how to reach out and serve people who are hurting or have a special need and do it selflessly, anonymously and with no intention of taking credit.  She has shown me how hard work and perseverance can and will make miracles happen (like me running a 1/2 marathon). She has shown me how to laugh at, and laugh through hard things.  "If it is not fatal, it's no big deal."  Megan Wooden is the best of the best.   I am lucky enough to say that she is one of my best friends.  She is the strongest woman I know and I love her with all my heart.”  ~Amy M. (Farr West, UT

  • “Throughout our friendship, Megan has inspired me to be a better me - to be a better mother, wife, and friend by teaching me to love myself and reach within to find my light! She has such an innate ability to stay grounded and to take life's challenges and say ‘how did my choices of thoughts or emotions contribute to this?  What is my lesson I get to learn here?’  She lives the saying everyday ‘work from the inside out.’  She has inspired me not to take life for granted, to get back to the basics of eating well, exercising daily, trusting in a higher power, to be proactive instead of reactive to life’s situations, and live each day in gratitude.  I am thankful to have such an amazing person in my life whom with all of her challenges she has faced still has such a passion for service to others.  Megan, thanks for your example of "Soaring Above" and your courage to just ‘BE’”  ~ Deni W. (Ogden, UT)

  • “When I hear Megan’s name it puts a smile on my face.  No matter how bad of a day I’m having she always has some silver lining outlook for me.  My favorite saying of hers that I’ve adopted is “It’s ALL good!”  I’ve tried to use this in my own life and have found that the more I say it the more convinced I become.  Megan has had a tough battle with her cancer, but yet she never gives up.  She continues to fight and I truly believe if anyone can beat this terrible disease it will be her!  I don’t think “quit” or “give up” are even in her vocabulary.  She has been an inspiration to me and many, many others.  I know she was sent here for a special purpose.  I love Megan and am so happy that I had the fortune of getting to know her.  I don’t think she has any idea what a great influence she has on people’s lives.  Thanks, Megan, for being who you are!”  ~ Sue N. (Roy, UT)
